Visual literacy and critical thinking\nWith Divina Frau-Meigs\, Professor at the Paris III University\, media sociologist\, Head of the association Savoir Devenir \nFrançois Laboulais\, National Manager for Media\, Digital and Citizenship of Ceméa \nAline Bousquet\, member of the working group on critical thinking of the Conseil Scientifique de l’Education Nationale \nAnimated by Christian Gautellier\, Festival’s director \nMisinformation now affects all kinds of texts and images. Even film images aren’t spared\, especially through the use of memes\, these small viral thumbnails\, coming from online and onscreen popular films and TV shows\, which are associated to all sorts of false messages and disinformation. Hence visual literacy is becoming an essential skill in the digital era\, in the same way as is critical thinking applied to fixed and animated images. What has changed since the days of « image grammar » ? What are the new skills required to navigate between the credibility of images and people’s gullibility ? What strategies\, derived from popular information and media education\, are available to stimulate the resilience of ordinary citizens and provide the means to act ? This round-table will help to highlight and develop these questions\, by establishing the benchmarks and ways of response provided by educational tools and practices…

DESCRIPTION:Human beings and Planet Earth… their future in a world becoming more and more digital ?\n  \nWith Juliette Duquesne\, independent journalist \nAnimated by Christian Gautellier\, Festival’s director \nThe covid-19 crisis has considerably increased the digitalisation of our world and our relationships. Digital technology has invaded many new aspects of our professional and personal life\, our leisure and cultural activities\, our democratic functioning… Digital technology must also be a topic discussed within the framework of debates on the future of our planet. Digital technology is the victim of many pre-conceived ideas. It is far from being immaterial. It is responsible for at least 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions\, let alone the huge use of water and metal substances necessary for their production. The use of artificial intelligence programs is growing. We consequently need to apprehend the human dimension of digital technology : what opportunities but also what risks do they represent for human beings ? What are the limits of such programs ? Do they represent a solution for our current environmental problems or are they\, on the contrary\, an additional source of pollution ? This dual outlook\, both human and environmental\, must lead us to think and act for the development of a less invasive digital technology which is more sober\, freer\, more convivial and less mercantile. Solutions exist\, some of which have already been experimented by civil society ; it is this aspect which the conference also wishes to discuss.

SUMMARY:MEETINGS OF THE FESTIVAL « JEUNES EN IMAGES »
DESCRIPTION:These meetings are organised by the Ceméa of Normandy\, the CRIJ of Normandy\, the Department of Social Cohesion of Eure. This year\, the theme was « My town\, my village\, in all its forms ». The various constraints brought by 2020 triggered the will and need of getting back together locally with its neigbours\, village\, town\, as well as creating social links and reinforcing knowledge sharing. Some people used this opportunity to rediscover their neighbourhood\, the towncenter\, a park\, some pathways\, a river… Others got closer to their neighbours\, their elders… and rediscovered their elected representatives\, their merchants… » The call for projects consisted in directing a short film (documentary or fiction\, of less than 5 mins long). Once made by the youth\, the short films are screened in the movie theatre so that they can share their creative experiences.
