Trained as a puppeteer, Roshanak Roshan studied puppetry for four years at the Iranian School of Fine Arts before becoming a director of puppet shows. In 2007, she moved to France and enrolled at ENSAV to study for a Master’s degree in ‘audiovisual creation’.

Her experience in puppetry and film led her to explore the world of animation. She directed *21 March* and *Yalda*, both of which were selected for numerous festivals, notably the Annecy Festival in 2016 for *Yalda*. With her short film *Noon, The Bread of Tehran*, she further explored the intersection of her various artistic worlds and affirmed her penchant for hybrid forms. She is currently working on a new animation project: an adaptation of a short story by the Iranian writer Zoya Pirzad.
